Just A Man
I've moved on
Gotten older
...Wiser
I won't say colder
Maybe more
Realistic?
Maybe I've learned my lesson
Like the softening of your hand
Burned too many times by
The fire
Eventually the scabs turned to callouses
No longer shocked by the heat's pain
But I don't like to say that...
That I've learned my lesson
Because everytime I say that
The Universe gives me a test
A bigger flame
To show me I haven't learned my lesson
At all
That's why it's been 6 years
With you...
My excuse before was that I was a child
But 6 years have passed
And I'm a child no longer
It's hard letting something go
That you've grown used to...
The familiarity
Even if it's pain
Humans are simple
Our brains like shortcuts
And sometimes the devil we know is better...
But you're no devil
Just a man
That's a hard lesson I've learned too
No glamour
No excitement
No thrill
Just a man
